Day 97 of 366

Manual mode, matrix metering, Nikon D300/grip, hand-held
Sigma 30 1.4 EX, 1/400 sec, f/1.4, ISO 1400,

Simple moment, but I love it. Available light only, capturing quick moments for a friend.

Why Compelling
I like the moment a lot, the light across the face, the warm internal light mixed with the cooler outdoor light streaming in.

Day 96 of 366

Manual mode, matrix metering, Nikon D300/grip, hand-held
Sigma 10-20 @10mm, 1/400, f/8, ISO 200, 5 exposure brackets at 8fps

Firetruck for sale, half off.

Why Compelling
Abandoned with a good sky behind always catches my eye. I like the square crop a lot with the shape of the truck. The line from the broken metal leads my eye in and there is enough details to keep you looking closer.

Also stopped in Anacortes for a couple hours. Made a trip to see where LensWork publishing is:

Day 95 of 366

Manual mode, matrix metering, Nikon D300/grip, hand-held
Sigma 30 1.4 EX, 1/80 sec, f/4, ISO 200

My IR filter for my old D70 arrived yesterday. Been shooting digital IR for years, with a filter on the front of the lens, but this is a more elegant solution. The D70 is very easy to convert to full time IR. Took about 15 minutes. The camera took a fall last year and has intermittently stopped recording photos to the card after they have been exposed. It is doing it again, so it needs to be sent in for service. Looooong out of warranty anyway, but will be nice to have it back in the kit of goodies and full time IR for more flexibility. The temporary white gaffer's tape over the right side of the camera body is to keep anything from touching the capacitor connections or wiring.

Order your conversion product today!

Why Compelling
Not every day that I take a part a camera, modify it, and put it back together...in about 20 minutes. ;-)

Day 94 of 366

Manual mode, matrix metering, Nikon D300/grip, hand-held
Nikkor 70-200 2.8 VR @ 200mm, 1/800 sec, f/14, ISO 400

A crow dropping out of the sky in front of the setting sun.

Why Compelling
This was the only shot I took and liked the moment against the light and the wing angle.

Day 93 of 366

Manual mode, matrix metering, Nikon D300/grip, l-bracket, tripod, cable-release
Sigma 10-20 @10mm, 30 sec, f/16, ISO 200, polarizer, ND400, 14-bit RAW

More location scouting today for new foregrounds and angles for sunrise/sunset or stormy weather. My mountain bike that got me here can just be seen where the clouds and rocks meet at the left of frame. I took two lenses (10-20 & 17-55 2.8) along with a tripod, a cable release, polarizer, ND400 and a bubble level.

Why Compelling
I like the colors, even at mid-day. I like the lines leading from the extreme foreground and how they intersect with the background. I like the slow shutter speed to smooth out the water.

Here is a location shot showing more of this spot:

Day 92 of 366

Manual mode, matrix metering, Nikon D300/grip, L-bracket, tripod, cable-release
Nikkor 85mm 1.8, 1.3 sec, f/16, ISO 200, 14-bit RAW, edited from the JPG as shown here

Edited the JPG instead of the RAW, reduced the saturation by -9 in Photoshop and cropped it vertical. Diffused Alien Bee AB400 and 8 tea light candles.

Why Compelling
I have always liked yellow and black together. This worked out pretty well to me. I really like the way the golden light from the candles deepens the color of the petals.
